Dunafon Castle Charity Event Fees
The Dunafon Castle
The Dunafon Castle is located 15 miles west of Denver in beautiful Bear Creek Canyon on Denver Mountain Parks Road (Hwy 74). Located six miles west of Morrison, CO, and four miles east of Evergreen, Colorado, midway between Idledale and Kittredge.
The Castle, completed in 1941, is built on a peninsula presenting a breathtaking view of the crystal-clear waters of Bear Creek. This stunning seventeen acre setting with 1500 feet of private trout stream is surrounded by an open space park with walking, hiking and mountain bike trails that form part of the Jefferson County Open Space Complex.
Restoration of the property was undertaken immediately upon purchase. The new owners developed the restoration plan based on existing blueprints, photographs, personal interviews with the surviving members of the Wright and Barnes families, and recommendations of professionals, and artisans with period knowledge.
Maintenance and restoration of a property of this complexity and age is a daunting task. The first order of the day was a labor force! Step 13, a drug and alcohol rehab program, was used exclusively as the source. As many as twenty residents of Step13 were on site on a daily basis to restore the castle to the condition described by the designer and builder, Mr. Wright.
Presently the residence is occupied by a fulltime caretaker. The castle is occasionally used for charity benefits. Proceeds from events go to support the continuing successof those in Step 13, Central City’s Opera program for youth, and the YMCA.
The castle’s ponds have been restocked, and a plan to promote the development of fly fishing programs for youth in conjunction with the Colorado Fish and Game Department, local fly fishing organizations, and through a generous donation of fly fishing equipment from Eagle Claw is underway.
Located directly below two upper rooftops are the Carriage Hall, Lower Carriage Hall and the Celtic Room. Both the Carriage Hall and the Celtic Room boast a massive stone fireplace, stunning old world faux wall paintings and panoramic views of the castles’ stately grounds.
Upper Castle Rooftops
The castle boasts two rooftop areas measuring approximately 3,600 total square feet. The views are spectacular, overlooking four large trout ponds set within majestic pine trees, a waterfall feature and a twenty-one foot water wheel.
The Carriage Hall
Located directly underneath the lower castle rooftop with a designated pathway for the guests, is the majestic Carriage Hall. With freshly painted faux walls, a massive stone fireplace and newly constructed steel and glass arched windows, The Carriage Hall features a 1,000 sq foot area creating that intimate dining room setting for your
special occasion.
Lower Carriage Hall
Steps will direct you from the Carriage Hall to the Lower Carriage Hall which features an additional 1,200 sq feet for your entertainment and activities.
The Celtic Room
With approximately 800 square feet of space and a wine cellar located just around the corner.
With plush oversized furniture set in front of the roaring fireplace, The Celtic Room sets the stage for your memorable experience at The Dunafon Castle.

Welcome to the Boettcher Mansion, Jefferson County’s premier special events site!
Built in 1917 as a summer home and seasonal hunting lodge for Charles Boettcher, the 110-acre estate was donated to the County in the 1970s. In 1975, the Mansion opened to the public as a unique venue for weddings and meetings.
Located in the heart of the Lookout Mountain Preserve, only 20 minutes from downtown Denver, this Arts & Crafts-style mansion offers a rare combination of historic authenticity and modern convenience.
On the National Register of Historic Places (”Lorraine Lodge” Building #84000858, also known as Boettcher Mansion, Charles Boettcher Summer Home; Jefferson County Conference & Nature Center).
Throughout the year we schedule special “Site Visit” dates to give prospective clients a chance to tour our venue outside of normal business hours. Appointments fill up quickly and dates/times are subject to change. Please call 720-497-7630 for an appointment.
